Doodle 4 Google

March 10, 2012 By: Kevin Category: Announcement, General

Google is having a contest for kids K-12 to design their next logo. The prizes are pretty enticing so if you know of any aspiring artists, please share. The deadline for submissions is March 23.  Here a link to a PDF flyer on this activity and there’s more info below:

Hi, My name is Ashlee Piper and I’m a Field Marketing Representative for Google. I’m contacting you today to discuss one of the many ways your program can partner with Google to create more opportunities for your children.

Right now, Google is hosting Doodle 4 Google, which is an art competition that challenges students to redesign our Google logo, with a doodle based on the theme: “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”

The national winner takes home a $30,000 college scholarship and awards his school with a $50,000 technology grant. In addition, the winning “Doodle” will also be displayed on Google’s homepage, Crayola’s iconic 64 box, and even more exciting our state winner will have his or art featured at Washington State’s Local Exhibit, The Pacific Science Center.

Please take some time to review the attached 1-Sheeter and let me know how we can best communicate this opportunity to your kids.

In addition, we also have Submission kits that we can provide to help some of your schools hold their own Doodle activity. Please let me know if you are interested. so that I may deliver a kit ASAP. The kit includes Entry Forms, Crayola Crayons, Markers, and Map Pencils. We also have tons of printed submission forms to give you as well.

Below are a couple links to help you learn more about Doodle 4 Google and to meet Matteo Lopez, the 2011 Doodle 4 Google National Winner.

Please let me know the best way to proceed with getting you a kit or more information. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

All the rest of the pictures from the scouting activities in 2011 have now been posted.  Looks like the boys have been having a great time on their trips.  I’d love to report on their reactions and thoughts about their travels, but they don’t appear to be willing to writing anything out.  Too much like school or something, I suppose…

Court of Honor & BBQ

June 22, 2011 By: Kevin Category: Announcement, Court of Honor

We had a great BBQ and Court of Honor this past Monday evening.  Great weather at Maple Leaf park.  Plenty of food…even for a bunch ravenous teenage and pre-teen boys!  There were quite a few merit badges handed out as well as advancement announcements.  New leadership was also announced this evening.  Kudo’s to the boys for their work and leadership!  Many thanks to Scoutmaster Bob and his team!

Volunteer opportunity with Seattle DPR and Carkeek Park

August 26, 2010 By: troop151 Category: Announcement, Eagle Scout, Service Project

I am Brian Gay, Public Programming Naturalist with Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation (based at Carkeek Park, address below). I have worked with Scouts in many capacities here at Carkeek to fulfill many service opportunities from Eagle Scout projects to flag ceremonies and more. I would like to offer scouts in your Troop the opportunity to participate with and support our unique orchard and its annual Festival of Fruit on 9/18. We have a variety of positions that a responsible Scout (or 4) could help us with.

Please contact me if you have time that morning to help us (about 3 – 4 hours would be great).

Carkeek Park is currently recruiting for 2010 volunteer Beach Docents, Forest Volunteers, Trails Volunteers, Orchard Volunteers, Salmon Support Volunteers, Backyard Habitat Caretakers, and More!

March 29th Shooting at Sam Gun CLub

March 11, 2010 By: bbrotherson Category: Announcement, Events, Schedule

On March 29th instead of swimming we will be shooting 22 rifles at Sams Gun Club. We will meet at St. Catherine’s at 6:00 and be back around 8:30. Scouts are to wear their Scout Shirts and follow all rules. I need about 6 to 7 dad to attend for safety reasons. Dads may not get time on the range, in this case Scouts go first.  Any questions call Bob 206-522-0365.

New pictures and changes to Facebook

October 18, 2009 By: troop151 Category: Announcement

Pictures for the August summer trip down to California have now been posted to the web, so take a look.  Also, I discovered that Facebook pages can receive updates from blogs but Facebook groups cannot…guess which one we currently have?  So, I created a Facebook Page for Troop 151.  Please take a look, become a fan, and invite your family and friends to become fans, too!

Enjoy!

Pennsylvania Troop send their Thanks

July 28, 2009 By: bbrotherson Category: Announcement, Camping, Events, Uncategorized

Troop 320 from Pennsylvania wanted me to pass along their thanks to all the Scouts and Parents from troop 151. They had a great time.  They enjoyed the tour of Seattle on Saturday. They loved Camp Parsons and agreed it was the best Scout Camp they had attended. Their leadership group met with Brad Allen of the Chief Seattle Council and praised Troop 151 and their Scoutmaster (that would be me) for helping them with their trip palns and for showing them a great time. Brad Allen came to our campsite and thanked me and our Troop for hosting and showing Troop 320 a great week. Thanks to everyone for their help with this task.
