Google is having a contest for kids K-12 to design their next logo. The prizes are pretty enticing so if you know of any aspiring artists, please share. The deadline for submissions is March 23. Here a link to a PDF flyer on this activity and there’s more info below:

Hi, My name is Ashlee Piper and I’m a Field Marketing Representative for Google. I’m contacting you today to discuss one of the many ways your program can partner with Google to create more opportunities for your children.

Right now, Google is hosting Doodle 4 Google, which is an art competition that challenges students to redesign our Google logo, with a doodle based on the theme: “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”

The national winner takes home a $30,000 college scholarship and awards his school with a $50,000 technology grant. In addition, the winning “Doodle” will also be displayed on Google’s homepage, Crayola’s iconic 64 box, and even more exciting our state winner will have his or art featured at Washington State’s Local Exhibit, The Pacific Science Center.

Please take some time to review the attached 1-Sheeter and let me know how we can best communicate this opportunity to your kids.

In addition, we also have Submission kits that we can provide to help some of your schools hold their own Doodle activity. Please let me know if you are interested. so that I may deliver a kit ASAP. The kit includes Entry Forms, Crayola Crayons, Markers, and Map Pencils. We also have tons of printed submission forms to give you as well.

Below are a couple links to help you learn more about Doodle 4 Google and to meet Matteo Lopez, the 2011 Doodle 4 Google National Winner.

D4G: Website

D4G: Meet Matte Lopez (2011 National Winner)

Please let me know the best way to proceed with getting you a kit or more information. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Ashlee Piper

We have campsites 5 & 9 they are located right next to the river. These sites are tent only camp sites. If you are planning on bringing some thing other than a tent please let me know so I can make arrangements.

Getting There: Mt. Baker Highway just past the town of Glacier. Snowater (Condos) are on the left and then go over the bridge (Nooksack River) and it’s the next driveway on the left.. Campground is directly across the river from Snowater.
Douglas Fir (WA)
From Seattle, Washington, go north on I-5 to Bellingham. Take exit 255 on State Hwy 542. Go past Glacier for 2 miles to the campground.

Douglas-fir Campground

Breathe in the fresh mountain air. Take notice of the quiet peace of the forest. Slow down and get away from the busy fast-paced world. For a few days of simplicity, visit the Douglas Fir Campground beautifully situated alongside the North Fork of the Nooksack River. The campground was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corp as part of the national project that created many of the trails and parks present today.

For a dose of outdoor adventure, take nearby Horseshoe Bend Trail offering a winter wonderland of cross-country skiing in the winter and a scenic hike in the spring and summer months. It’s an easy forest trek along a raging whitewater section of the Nooksack River. Or maybe some good-old fashioned storytelling around the campfire and evening s’mores are what you seek. Whatever your desire, come to the forest and enjoy time spent in the great outdoors.

Had a great picnic and Court of Honor tonight at the Maple Leaf Park. We were only missing a couple of families and there were plenty of hamburgers and hotdogs for al, not to mention the broccoli salad and apple pie. Congrats to all the incoming scouts this year who have already achieved their Tenderfoot rank! A couple boys achieved their Life rank and one got both second and first class ranks tonight. Good job boys!

Looking forward to great plans for the summer with Camp Parsons and the bike trip coming up in the next two months.
